5 Critical Web Page Sections That Should be Optimized for On-Page SEO

SEO, or search engine optimization, can seem like an obscure topic. It doesn’t help that Google is constantly updating their search algorithm. Even so, there are still some tried and true methods that can be used to improve on-page SEO.

On-page SEO refers to the information that a web page gives to search engines. If the web page is optimized correctly, then the page will rank higher in search engine results pages. In order to optimize your pages for keywords, you need to include those keywords in select locations on your site.

If you are building a new website, you can optimize each page by including keywords in the sections listed below. If you already have a website and haven’t optimized each page, you have some work to do. Start by optimizing the pages that get the most traffic and then move on to the ones with less traffic. As you create more pages in the future, be sure to optimize as you go.

1. Titles

Titles are the HTML element used to describe the topic of a web page. The title of a web page shows up in search engine results pages when someone conducts a search. They also appear in the top bar of an internet browser

Titles have a direct impact on both searcher clickthrough rates (CTRs) and search rankings. To make sure your title is search-friendly and click-friendly, you should try to keep it below 65 characters. This will prevent the title from getting  cut off on search engine results pages. You should also include one of your target keywords or phrases in the title. This will make it easier for searchers to identify whether your results are relevant to their query. You should also position your target keywords toward the front of the title so it doesn’t get cut off in SERPs.

2. Descriptions

Descriptions, also known as meta descriptions, are the snippets of information that appear below the title and URL in search results.

Although descriptions don’t directly impact rankings, they can increase CTR. A description helps users know if your result is what they’re looking for. A good description should be relevant and engaging. It should also include one of your target keywords or phrases, so searchers know whether your result is relevant to them.

3. Headings & Content

It’s important to use your keywords in your headings and content. Visitors are more likely to stay on a page if they see the terms they searched for. Using keywords in your headings and content is one of the ranking factors that Google uses.

When using keywords, be sure to use them naturally in your  headings and throughout your content. Google has gotten better at detecting keyword-stuffing and will penalize sites in search results for doing so.

You should always follow the best practice of writing for users, not search engines. This will help you attract more users to your site. It will also prevent your web pages from getting demoted in search results due to keyword stuffing.

4. Image Alt Text & Titles

Including keywords in natural ways in image alt text and titles can also help with your SEO. Image alt text and titles are attributes that can be added to an image tag in HTML. Here’s what an image tag might look like:

<img src=”image.jpg” alt=”image-description” title=”image tooltip”/>

An image’s alt text tells search engine crawlers what the image is about, and it shows inside the image container when an image can’t be found. Alt text is also used to improve accessibility for people with visual impairments.

An image title, on the other hand, is used to describe an image when a user hovers their mouse over the image. The image title is kind of like a “pop-up.” It won’t be shown to the user, however, when an image can’t be displayed.

5. URLs

In addition to the sections mentioned above, you should also optimize your URLs by including keywords in them. Optimizing URLs can be important for businesses that do a lot of blogging. Since each post has its own URL, you can optimize the URL for every post you publish.

When optimizing URLs, be careful to only use keywords that accurately describe the content. You should make sure your URLs are user-friendly and that words are separated with hyphens.
